Sasak (isocode sas) is spoken by some 2+ million people on the island of Lombok, Indonesia. The purpose of this dictionary is to help non-native speakers, including other Indonesians, to speak Sasak well. These days if Sasak is written, it is written with tacit understandings taken from Indonesian which makes pronunciation for non-natives difficult. The spelling system used in this dictionary will help one get their Sasak right the first time.
Included in the dictionary are real life sample sentences. Indonesian and English literal translations of those sentences. The vocabulary covers a broad spectrum of daily language.
We have focused on Sasak used in Mataram which is understood if not spoken across the island. There is some vocabulary from other dialects (flagged) but keep in mind that the far northern and far southern dialects are generally incomprehensible to Sasak people in Mataram.
The entries using the International Phonetic Alphabet are still under development. As with all dictionary projects, there is a continual need for corrections additions and updating. We hope to update as frequently as we can.
